Kulturforum Westfalen, Münster
Architectural ensemble
In the scope of ’Regionale 2004’, the city of Münster had offered an award for the new construction of a music hall and a museum for contemporary art, in co-operation with the regional authority ‘Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe’ and with support from the German federal state of North-Rhine Westphalia. 197 national and international architects, presenting a mixture of conventional, round, elliptical-shaped and sculptural structure, had obviously given free rein to creativity.
DU was commissioned as an expert for economic efficiency. The cost evaluation of the designs was based on the volumous capacities as well as structural and artistic aspects. Within one month, the 197 designs, sub-divided into the subjects ‘music hall‘,‘museum‘ and ’underground car park’, were evaluated through a pre-defined scheme.
The decision of the jury was unanimous. The designs from the five awardees of the first stage mirror the wide spectrum and the variety of the submitted works. Further seven concepts were bought by the city of Münster.
