C and C - controlling

In the dictionary ’cost’ precedes ’culture’. In reality however, there are controversial opinions about the rule of priority. To create transparency in this area of conflict, DU was involved in Germany’s biggest communal construction project in the cultural area, to control the crucial project phase, from January 2001 to the end of the project, in 2003. One of DU’s essential tasks was the assistence of project supervision to secure compliance with cost and time frames.

In this period, the last construction phase was realised. In 2003, the extensively redeveloped Jugendstil theatre could be handed over to the Munich ‘Kammerspiele’. In November 2002, the new workshop building and in May 2001, the new rehearsal building was brought into use. To maintain the theatre proceedings, it was necessary to co-ordinate the outsourcing of play and theater workshops throughout the entire construction period.

The renewed Kammerspiele were presented to the public in a ceremonial re-auguration on the 23rd of March 2003 and with the premiere of Shakespeare’s ’Othello’, staged by Luk Perceval on the 29th of March.
The client was satisfied, since the schedule had been kept and DU’s cost calculations from summer 2001, had been confirmed in the final settlement.
