Correctional facility for women, Willich
doing justice to the purpos
The German federal state Nord Rhine-Westphalia intends to construct a new closed prison in Willich for female full age prison inmates. BLB NRW Krefeld invited architects to participate in a limited realisation competition in two stages, according to the rules for architect's competitions of 2001, with the aim to find a purpose-related planning solution. The procedure was supervised by the architects from 'Scheuvens + Wachten'.
The building complex to be built is to include prison cells, sports facilities, workshops, socialising areas, kitchen facilities and administration buildings, conceptually designed according to modern criteria for the enforcement of sentences.
DU was commissioned with the cost analysis of the 29 tenders. The offers had to be assessed with regard to compliance with the defined general conditions, in particular cost objectives as well as safety and functional requirements.
A functional and architecturally demanding planning solution, maintaining the cost target, was found.
