Redevelopment of former local court, Sedanstrasse, Wuppertal
execution in due time
The regional correctional facility of North-Rhine Westphalia has found its new administrative location in Wuppertal. The former local court building was selected for its reference to its new purpose, in terms of content and history. Since December 2002, with the occupancy of the main building, the 37 legal authorities of North-Rhine Westphalia have been co-ordinated from this centre.
With the alteration of the former local court, the demolition of the associated penal institution and the construction of a new 5-storey building, a modern office and administration building was created in two stages of construction.
The connection of the listed former local court with the new building was a special architectural challenge. Owing to DU's involvement, the main development group of objects was completed with excellent results.
DU's particular aim was undercut the budget stipulated in the scope of the pre-planning. After the cost estimate and the final invoice for essential performances had been submitted, it began to show that this aim would certainly be achieved. Both building parts were completed and handed over to the user, in due time.
