New government buildings, Haroldstrasse, Duesseldorf
far-sightedly abstaining from seeing far
The new central administration building of E.ON AG, Duesseldorf, was designed by the architect's office 'O. M. Ungers' and constructed from 1999 to 2001 by the working group 'Zueblin-Wolfferts'.
The ambitious planning by the architect Ungers, the special building materials and the extensive technical building equipment, in combination with the due dates determined by E.ON, constituted an extraordinary challenge. In addition to that, utilisation changes during the performance and delays caused by the general contractor endangered the planned date of removal. Therefore, DU concentrated on the synchronisation of the due dates and the building owner's personal contribution.
The measure was monitored by DU's experts, to limit possible claims from the general contractor. After the object had been handed over in due time, DU was also commissioned with the general organisation of the defect collection and remedy control. The deficiencies were collected and their handling controled by means of a database especially developed for this purpose.
However, the 7-storey building, planned as an atrium, is now being realised by BLB NRW, the successor company of the national building authorities.
