IG Metall builts on Krupp
The Treuhand (trust) administration 'IGEMET GmbH' is constructing a new workers' union building at the historic steel works location in Alleestrasse, Bochum, close to 'Jahrhunderthalle' in Bochum. The construction and later utilisation are performed in close co-operation with 'IG Metall', Bochum.
The special appeal: The construction site is a former location of 'Krupp Stahl AG'. A disadvantage in this context is that a necessary elimination of past contamination goes along with the project.
The new building is planned to be constructed on 4,120 m2 land area as a 9-storey office building for administration, including a 3-storey gastronomic and meeting area. A glass connection building will round off the ensemble made from steel, clinker and glass, in the traditional style of functional industrial construction. The form of the building symbolises the union's actively protecting character.
The extremely tight budget could be maintained through the commissioning of a general contractor.
