Municipal Jewish Museum, Munich
in the public eye
The new building of the Municipal Jewish Museum was constructed, parallel to the construction works of the Jewish religious community, in the middle of the inner city of Munich.
The construction process also affects an existing bunker, which will be situated under the museum, post construction. It will be altered to provide surface space for exhibitions and archival storage. The construction works will be performed in a combined excavation, shared with the Jewesh religious community - synagogue and community centre – for their construction project. This becomes necessary due to the technical conditions, resulting from the spatial closeness of the objects and the required lowering of the ground water level.
The planned projects have attracted particular public attention. During the construction period and during later operation, the highest security standards must be met, and that despite of the central location.
In the scope of a ’task force’, the Bavarian capital, Munich, commissioned DU with the general co-ordination of applications for the whole ’St. Jakobs-Platz’ project, i. e. information, co-ordination, documentation, cost and schedule planning and schedule control.
Through DU’s parallel cost calculation, savings of approx. 1.0 m € have been achieved so far.
