'Deutsche Welle', Kurt Schumacher-Strasse, Bonn
not built on air
Substantial damages of the structurally almost completed new buildings for the German Bundestag, caused by the worst flooding of the Rhine in 100 years, required massive efforts in alteration of the building complex for 'Deutsche Welle' (DW).
The unprecedented redevelopment and the conversion of the Parliament office buidling into a highly modern digital broadcasting centre make the project very complex. The building site security (building ground) was followed by demolition, construction measures and the repair of damaged structural components.
Houses '4' and '6', which are connected with each other through the glazed studio hall are the centre piece of the building complex. This area is completed by buildings for administration, editoral staff of the radio centre, DW training and further education, archive/library and canteen/cafeteria.
Project acconting is soley managed by DU. The cost cap for continued construction will probably be maintained through continual cost monitoring and control. The building was completed in time for the 50th anniversary celebration of 'Deutsche Welle'. From this point onwards, broadcasting was gradually made from the new broadcasting station.
