The laboratory for machine tools and business operations of RWTH Aachen University is one of the biggest university institutions of its kind, in Europe. The enlarging scope of functions requires the extension of laboratory surface space for testing plants.
The planning by the architects of 'Gerkan, Marg und Partner' provides for a glass foyer in front of a machine hall. A glass elevator and an open stairway are to make the office and meeting rooms on the first and second floor accessible.
The sophisticated overall planning manifests itself in visible achievements and can also be quantified. Before the first results of the invitation offer were available, it was obvious that the budget would be exceeded. Involvement of DU, after receipt of the 'HU-Bau' budget documents and during the current tender procedure for the structural work, will assure security of costs. This can be demonstrated on BLB NRW's experience from numerous projects with DU.
