The necessary redevelopment of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, with an unusually short planning and realisation phase for award of construction contracts, according to VOB/A (German Construction Contract Procedures, part A), was a logistical challenge. In particular, for the 'Invalidenhaeuser' built in 1748 and 'Kaiser-Wilhelm-Akademie' built in 1910, sophisticated solutions for the foundation, sealing problems and decontamination, were found.
The cost estimate by crafts, DU worked out in parallel to the general planner, provided a fundament for cost security. Divided into seven single construction schemes with approx. 380 awards to individual enterprises and four awards to general contractors, the project was realised in due time. In addition to cost control, an intensive examination of plans and contract specifications contributed to a project realisation within the budget.

After the successful completion of the project in 2001, resources to the amount of 7.8 m EUR had been saved for the client.
