Project control is art

Parliament leaving in 1988 did not mark the end of the emotional history of 'Staendehaus', Duesseldorf. It was necessary to find an adequate use for the listed building in its exposed position.

The planned conversion into a museum, also to be used by the federal state North-Rhine Westphalia for its representation, was divided into two stages of construction. The cost limitation of approx. 49 m EUR was stipulated early in 1996.

The 'Staendehaus' project exemplifies that protection of historical monuments, high utilisation and quality demands are compatible with a fixed budget and a stringent schedule. This requires target-oriented project control by means of tools successfully used and tested by DU. Other tools were available for the control of defined awarding procedures and investor models, as well as for the selected procedure of functional general contracting (GU).

DU handed over the building, together with BLB NRW, in due time. The premises and the 'K21' art collection were inaugurated in a ceremony, on 18th of April 2002.
