Ruhrfestspielhaus, Recklinghausen
worth an award
Preserving and also reinterpreting the idea of the old ‘Ruhrfestspielhaus’ was the requirement for the architectural competition. Another aim was to meet the needs of the cultural scene and the organisers’ infrastructural requirements.
In 1993, DU was selected for the technical and economic controlling of the competition procedure, which was won by the architect´s office ‘Auer + Weber + Partner’. In consideration of further construction, the festival hall in Recklinghausen, total costs of approx. 48 m € were calculated, which however could not be financed. Until 1995, DU had to make principle clarifications (integration of subsidies) for the technical feasibility of the concept.
All planning and construction processes were continuously monitored and controlled, under technical, economical and organisational aspects, in order to maintain the construction order, according to budget and schedule.
The project was completed within the cost framework and in due time. The national meaning of the project, its planning and performance, was awarded with ’Deutscher Architekturpreis’ (German Architecture Award) received by ‘Auer + Weber + Partner’, in 2001.
